BIOS wont recognize dvd drive

I just got my birthday parts in the mail and they all work fine (I will be posting pictures soon :D ), but my DVD drive isn't in the list of stuff thats plugged in in bios. It opens and sounds like it runs fine so I know its getting power. I checked the IDE cable and the jumper but they are both plugged in the right place and such. I'm going to check if anything is loose again but if that doesn't help what do I do?
 
You could have received a defective drive? That's always possible. Is that slaved to the hard drive or mastered or slaved to another drive on the secondary cable? The cable being used could also be the problem.
 
Are all the parts brand new? The cables and everything? If so, is the BIOS set to auto? The likelihood of a bad cable is virtually nil if it's new, but you could try plugging it into the HDD if it's a PATA HDD and see if you have the same problem. Also try plugging it into the other PATA controller. Otherwise it is most likely defective.
 
The cord is new but the floppy drive one included with my motherboard was defective. I'm going to try a different cord.
EDIT: thanks that worked. I guess MSI gave me garbage cables.

You can get a few bad new ones as well as old ones. I've tossed a few here at times. At least your birthday gift is working! :D
 
Its a $20 lite-on one from newegg.com . I'd reccomend it to anyone. I like the software that comes with it too.

PowerDVD 6.0 is used here as the primary video player. It's a top notch software. The 6.0 and maybe 7.0 versions have the screen saver option when playing audio cds just like WMP has. When going from 4.0 to 6.0 that was a plus. :D
