Birthday! PCI video card?

My birthday is next week, and I want to know if I should get a new video card. Yes, I'm stuck with PCI, for at least the next year it seems. I'm guessing the parents want to spend about 70 bucks on the present... I might want to even it out and go with some RAM and a lower video card possibly.

Specs:

Dell Dimension 2400
2.4 Ghz Celeron (Northwood)
512mb (2x256mb) RAM (generic)
Geforce4 MX4000 64mb PCI, overclocked :P

What should I ask for? Is it worth upgrading with just PCI?

Personally, I don't think it's worth upgrading that PC. Yes, there are better cards you can get, but considering the specs of the computer, I think you'd be better off putting money towards a new machine.

I don't really think that it is worth getting a new PCI card as they are really outdated, You could maybe pick up a cheap board that supports your current CPU and RAM but has a PCI-e or AGP slot and get a decent card then?

EDIT: Damn you beat me to it :P

I really dont think its worth upgrading. PCI cards are so expensive compared to their AGP counterparts. For $70 you could buy a new motherboard and processor (Like an Athlon 64 even).

ok, I think I might be interested in that idea... would a new motherboard be compatible with my Dell case and psu you think? Would my OEM windows still work?

I dont think the windows would instantly work again.. but when you try to activate it, it will give you the option to call microsoft.
you tell the guy at the phone that your old motherboard died, and because it was pretty old, you couldnt get the same one again :)
(worked for me,.. but then, my mobo did indeed die :( )

Older Dell machines were rather propriatery. Newer ones are pretty standard, but they do use BTX I do beleive rather than ATX. You'd probably be better off just getting everything new, maybe keeping your drives and peripherals...

i say just wait, ask for money instead and put it in the bank, just hold off for a bit, work during the summer, then you can buy a good pc that will last you a good amount of time, much better choice than upgrading that pc, which even with an upgrade still wont run many games / PCI is really outdated,.........

JUST WAIT!!!!!!!!!!11
