Bit Torrents

Hi guys. My brother is always downloading torrents, 24/7. Either downloading or uploading them. I have 4MB cable, but with the downloads and uploads it seems like I have 56k. It's really annoying, waiting 3 minutes for a webpage to load up and not being ale to play MMO games.

Is there anything I can do to stop this besides getting him arreseted?

not much, you could just ask him to stop!, or hit him

Depending on the torrent client he is using you can specify a download and upload limit (as in a speed limit) but you'll have to convince him to be fair

Lol, great idea! Isn't there software that limits bandwith on our LAN? So each computer can only be using so much bandwith?

EDIT: I just tried to come to these forums, and it takes so long to load with these torrents, that I got up to get a glass of water before it finished loading . Please help.

actually what your experinceing is caused from his bit torrent client downloading without a limit and taking the full bandwith, if you "ask him" (or do it yourself) to put a limit on his max download even if its 20KB/s less than your max download speed which you can tell by taking a speed test on dslreports.com you should be able to look at web pages alot quicker.
btw do the test when his torrents arent downloading.

do you know what client he uses for torrents? with pretty much any client you can set a limit of the max download speed.

From what I know he downloads from "Oink", and uses bit comit. I'm not sure how to limit.

NOTE: We are connected through a router.

the download speed rarely disrupts the web page loading time, its the upload that does it. ask him to limit the uploading he does. what is your upstream bandwith? ask him to limit it to a quarter of what the max is, this way, he can still get good speeds, without messing it up for everyone else

I just tried going to his computer, but he's on idle and has a password. I'll wait for him to come back as I don't want to bypass it right now.
