Bizarre new problem, cannot open movies, music and have no sound in Windows 7

Hey guys, today I woke up and found my computer (which I left on overnight) suddenly had a very strange problem. I cannot open any media files that have sound in them, such as .avis or .mp3s. I also have no sound in general on the internet or anything else. At first, when I tried to use the internet it would load for a split second then instantly stop loading, and I couldn't do anything. Restarting fixed the internet problem, but not the sound/media files problem.

I'm currently using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, my HD is an Intel Solid State Disk.

If anyone has experience or has heard of this problem I could really use some help. Thanks!

Advice for the future : never keep your computer running overnight unguarded or disable at least your internet connection in Windows, otherwise you become a honeypot for all kinds of malware and/or hackers.
I have an icon on my desktop, to disable/enable my internet connection immediately.
