Bizzare lag on a wireless lan, help would be nice :)

four friends and I have been doing LAN parties for some time now and at our current one we one of us has been experiencing random lag, or "ping", spikes.

all of us are connected to the router wirelessly, and we all are running windows 7, (various editions), we have never had any problems before this. only one of us is having this problem. basically what happens is every 10-15 seconds the person ping will spike to numbers usually over 500ms. we have all done everything to our knowledge to fix this issue including tweaking drivers, and various windows settings. i am sorry i cannot be more specific but if i was you would be reading a novel :)

any input or ideas are greatly appreciated! (especially from someone with extensive knowledge in wireless networking with win7 ;) )

The problem is that you're using wireless for everyone. You have to remember that there are a lot of things that can cause interference with the signal. Wireless is more for convenience than a reliable connection. If you can see if you can hook them up directly to the router or only maybe have 1 on the wireless.

In short gaming and wireless don't mix well

I agree with ROFLcopter. Wireless will always have a tiny bit of lag, this you wouldn't get through ethernet.
Go Ethernet and your probs should be gone.

Thank you

thank you for the feedback, you are both probably right, we should use a hardline connection to game, but what really confuses me is that we have done this exact setup before with no issues, the only difference is that we moved everything downstairs this time, which is closer to the router! Windows even said that the signal strength was better than what it usually is when we are upstairs!

Even if you computer says you're getting a better connection it's still going to suck. You have to remember it's 4 computer sending signals through the air to get to the router. The problem is they're the same signal and using the same space. They are more than likely interfering with each other. As said before going ethernet will fix your problems.
