Black desktop and only an arrowpointer

Can somebody help me pls?

I restored my PC to an earlier date. Now when I startup everything works fine. I even get the windows XP loading screen. BUT....

When Windows wants to load my desktop I only get a black screen and a white arrow

This also happens when I start in safe mode, Windows CD doesn't start or it does start but I can't see it...

Can somebody give me some advice or tricks about how to undo the restore or anything like it?

So you cant access and hd, or files or programs is that correct? Does ctrl alt del work? Hmm I would pretty much give it up on that, and reformat. What i would do is go buy a new 20gb foor cheap and reinstall windows on the small drive and slave the "broken" drive. this way you can explore and retrieve all the old files. Hope it helps. Never run into this situation.
