Blackberry Pearl

Hey guys I'm looking for a new cellphone and I can get a Blackberry Pearl (red) for free. It looks like a pretty good phone but does anyone here have one or knows anything about it?

Thanks

Solid phone, I like the Pearls but not as much as mine. The BB Curve, I enjoy having the full QWERTY over the SureType thing.

A few of my friends use the Pearl, they love it and don't seem to have a problem not having a full QWERTY.

I doubt I'd have much trouble with the Suretype thing as I won't be texting that much.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

If you are gonna have it for a data plan you will still need to use the keyboard for writing... My GF upgraded after only having the pearl for 2 months.. The Curve is much better if you have a choice.

Blackberries actually make for a terrible phone. They're not worth 10 bucks. Their strength is their data. Unfortunately RIM has had two outages in eight months, so their clients are starting to look elsewhere. Too bad, though, as it's a Canadian company (St. Catherines, ON I believe).

If you're looking for an all around solid PDA, go with the Treo. A much better unit.

I have owned two Palm Treo's, the 650 and am currently using the 680. I wouldn't give it up for anything, i love the interface and most of all the touch screen.

The blackberries are not as customizable as the Treos due to the palm OS, which there are thousands of applications for.

But hey, if the blackberry is free, then go for it. I doubt your going to find a treo for that price.

Waterloo, ON. They are not far from my house :)

Although they claim to have redundant systems, that sounds an awful lot like they have a single point of failure. I don't see how you can have 2 complete failures like that in such a short time any other way. I'm pretty sure the phone service was uninterupted though, only the data portion was affected. I know it screwed us up pretty bad, a lot of our support staff use RIMs for paging and they didn't get any pages that night.

does it have 3g?
I would not touch a phone unless it was a HSDPA phone.
I am waiting for htc to come out with a new phone that is a major improvement over what I currently have and then I am getting it.
I know people hate windows, but for me htc and windows mobile 6 is excellent, although windows IE for mobiles really sucks.

The honest truth is that you can not take one persons opinion on phones.

I gave my Treo 650 away to some random person in the Cingular store once I got my Blackberry Curve, I was SO EXCITED to give it away and get it off my hands. I didn't even care about selling it or making money. I hated it so much.

I have used 4 Windows Mobile Phones, 3 Treo's, and a Blackberry 8700c (the older generation) before I got my Curve and this is without a doubt my favorite phone.

I hate the Treo interface, it just seemed some childish to me. Yes, it was customizable, but it was just so weird. Windows mobile phones always froze, they were slow phones. They froze more than my Treos did, and that's a lot of freezing.

My blackberry has been with me for almost 6 months now, which is the longest time I have held onto a phone for. I still love it.
