Blu-ray drive questions

My brother is looking to add a blu-ray drive to his HTPC and asked me about drives and I have never used them before. Do they all read and burn dvds and cds still? Are they worth the money? Can you buy blank blu-ray discs? What are good brands? I quoted him around $200 but I have no idea if that price is even in the ballpark or not.

wait...........popularity just is not there yet. Honestly i think only a hand full of people have them. I don't. the disk would be high in price.

If I were him I would just go with a reader. They can be had for faily cheap. I picked mine up for $90cdn and it reads HD-DVD's as well. Why would you buy a Blu-Ray burner to just put it back in the same drive to watch it?

He wants a burner so he can eliminate the cd/dvd burner currently in the bay. He just wants a 'do it all' drive. Thanks for the suggestions!

Make sure you get the one you want...

1) Blu-ray Rom - Read Blu-ray disc, DVD and CD
2) Blu-ray DVD combo - Read Blu-ray disc, DVD and CD; burn DVD and CD
3) Blu-ray burner - Read and burn Blu-ray disc, DVD and CD
