Blu-ray player question

My dad is concerned about some information he got from a tech guy at walmart, and that right there makes me raise a red flag, but it did seem like a valid point.

This is what the tech said (or close to it), you should buy a dvd player addon because playing dvds on a blu ray player will burn out the reading light faster.

So, my question is, is that true?

I personally just think its a scam to get him to buy more stuff, but I could be wrong. Thanks for any advice.

Doesn't your dad already have a DVD player? And I'd think by the time the laser burns out (a LONG time from now), the price of bluray players would be low enough to just get another one.

No, he doesn't have another DVD player, his died and he figured he might as well get a blu-ray player.

Good theory though, hope it turns out to be true because I convinced him not to get one. :)
