i did a search and to my suprise there was no poll on this. what do you think will come out to be the top.

Blu-Ray has support of Blockbuster, which basically pwns all.

To add, Sony has also fully backed blu-ray (PS3), and for good reason, blue ray discs have a higher capacity than HD, much higher. A single layer HD DVD has a capacity of 15 GB and a dual layer 30 GB, however a single layer Blu-ray has a capacity of 25 GB and a dual layer 50 GB.

The fact is, there was no poll because the choice is obvious!

PS: and Blu-ray sounds cooler...

Happy Holiday

BD player sales beat HD-DVD players 5 to 1.
BD film sales beat HD-DVD film sales 3 to 1.

The biggest box-office winners of this year were, in order: Sony, Disney, and Fox. Those are the three Blu-ray players. The fourth is Warner, and they release in both formats, so it doesn't hurt. Universal is the only one with HD DVD.

Blockbuster going Blu-ray exclusive.
Target selling Blu-ray media players exclusively.

Higher capacity.
Better range of movies.
Greater install base.
Cooler name (sounds next-gen).

Blu-ray > HD-DVD

Just my opinion.

but it is like 900 for blue ray players which is funny b/c ps3 are like 600 :P. but i love blue ray it is so good. (any way i want a blue laser :D)

You can get a Blu-Ray player for under $500, they were around $900 when they first came out.

Yeah, but if you think about it, the Blu-ray player built into the ps3 is still ridiculously cheap. The console itself must cost at least $400 so you get the BD player thrown in for more than half its stand-alone price ($200).

I think that microsft digital rights management has been successful enough to this point to warrant the extinction of disc-based movie platforms, and concentrate more effort onto downloadable movies.

by september ther should be dule players :D lol
There's dual players now by LG, but the playback is supposed to be poor for both.

Why? Get a combo-player that does both or, better still, avoid HD-DVD all together.
Again, the one by LG is supposed to be pretty poor. And the samsung one isn't coming out over here for a while yet. And about avoiding HD-DVD, why would i do that whens there's films that i like coming out only for that? If they came out on both, id get it for Blu-Ray...or HD-DVD just to annoy all of the fan boys on here :P

Actually, from what i gather the reason the PS3 is so expensive is because of the Blu-Ray, not the other way round.

That's what i'm saying. The BD player should be around $400-$500. If so then you are getting a console for as little as $100(!)

The ps2 never had a very good reputation for being a reliable dvd player, tho. I wouldn't be suprised if the ps3 had it's flaws, as well.
