blue screen of death constantly

Ive had my compaq 1505 for about 3 year...after about 6 months it started flashing the blue screen and rebooting....well it always tells me there is a device driver conflict....sometime the error report said it was the touchpad mouse and sometimes it says it cant determine the driver, and sometimes it tells me this Error caused by problem in random access memory: run Windows tool......well now same issues but instead of rebooting it just stays at the blue screen until i hold the power button to turn it off. i just read a post that says if i get the code from the blue screen it is possible to tell whats causing my problems? is this true..and is there any other things i can check....would there be any errors logs in the regestry i could check.. in the component services it does show errors at the times of the crashes saying either application hang or application error, whatever that means. I really would like to buy a new computer but this one runs what i need it to when its working. any thoughts would be appreciated. thank you
its a pentium 4 1.6ghz running XP Home 256 mb of ram

Have you installed new software or hardware in the PC shortly before the problem appeared?
The code from the blue screen might help determine the cause of the problem and solution. Copy it and type it in the google search engine, and see what you can find...
I don't think a registry check will help...(or don'know)
Cause could be faulty memory, or some device that has been installed....
Also, if you have the Windows XP CD, I would format the harddrive and reinstall XP home again....
Just a few ideas...

Sorry, I forgot we were talking about a laptop. Disregard my question about installed hardware and the word 'PC':)

Maybe you have a virus. Therefore,a virus check and harddrive format could help.

Well I have reformatted three or four times in the last couple years to see if that would help....it hasn't...I was wondering about the memory..I might check on getting a new memory card for it and see how that works...I want to upgrade the memory anyhow...just dont want to spend money on it if its not worth it. thanks for the thoughts.

well i did manage to get this information from another bsd
driver_irql_not_less_or_equal
i searched google and found that this could mean pretty much anything related to a driver. Just tells me that these dumb operating systems dont do well with a lot of the components made for computers...and they are a crap shoot all the way. oh well
