Can anyone help, every time i switch my laptop on i get a blue screen of death come up displaying

0x00000007e (0xc0000005, 0xf786b0bf,0xf7cb7208, 0xf7cb6f08)

pci.sys - address f786b0bf base at f7864000, datestamp 3b7d855c

Does anyone know what the problem is? I've tried different memory and a different hard drive but i am still getting the same everytime i switch it on.

Is there a way to find out what the information means?

Thanks

Does the error occur before you log into windows or does it happen as soon as you log in. If it happens after you log in, it is probably a driver issue. Try booting into safe mode and see if the error happens still. If the error occurs before windows log on, try going into your bios and see if your system has any hardware testing utilities. Hope this helps.

Try removing any PCI/MiniPCI cards. If that helps, try reinstalling/updating the drivers for the cards.

Good Luck!

It happens while the windows xp screen appears just after switching it on.
I have stripped every thing i can off the main board but it is still happening and have also tried changing the memory.
Could there be a problem with the motherboard itself?

Thanks for all the help :)

if the BSOD starts during that screen, it could be the OS, or more than likely a PCI device plugged in. If you remove all your expansion slot cards and try again, we might narrow down the problem.

I have tried a different hard drive and it still doing the same thing and also when trying to go into safe mode.
I have taken all expansion cards ect out and it hasn't made a difference.
Starting to think it might be the board itself :(

try disabling onboard graphics in bios. and see if that helps.

uninstall all the drivers for the cards you pulled out and try again. one by one.

Your pci.sys file is corrupt ! Repair your operating system.
No such system errors traces seems to be there
Good luck!

try some of the following:

1. If you have your OS disk(s) handy then pop em in and run repair. try now
2. Because it says PCI error start in safe mode (if it will) with networking and look for the newest drivers that are available and install em.
3. If all of that fails, use onboard graphics (if you have em on your mobo) and try to reinstall your video card/PCI card drivers
4. Put the HDD in another computer, ensuring it is the master, and try booting with different hardware. If it won't boot you know it isn't hardware and it's your HDD or OS thats goosed.
5. If all of that fails take out the hard drive, use the jumpers to make it a slave and put it in another computer, copy any important stuff over to the computer the HDD is now in and then format the misbehaving HDD.

With option 5 use only if all else fails. I would assume it's hardware rather than software though. If you have a spare, even if its old, card that is the same as the one you are using, ie. nvidia or ATI depending on what your mobo supports and try booting then.

If it turns out is hardware change components one at a time, your video card, then RAM then sound card etc etc until you have found the root of the problem. And yes, i said RAM, i know it may sound silly but if your RAM is corrupt it can cause a world of problems because it messes up your OS because the stuff it takes from the hard drive it won't put back properly, making it corrupt.

If you manage to get the system booted download memtest (google it, it's right at the top) and use it to scan your RAM. 1 error in about a 100-500% test would mean your RAM is messed up
