Blue Screen of Death

The other day while using Windows Live Movie Maker to make a movie with some of my home videos my computer froze halfway through the task and would not respond to anything.

I held down the power button to switch the computer off and then tried to restart it, but after what seemed like a normal startup it went to a blue screen telling me the startup was stopped to prevent damage to my computer.

I spent the next few hours trying everything I could based on the information I got off this site and eventually got it to boot properly and it has been working now for about 24 hours without a problem.

I would just like to know that if I have had the dreaded BSOD is my computer now doomed or is it possible to fully recover from the BSOD.

To me the term Blue Screen of Death sounds like it was termed that way because a computer that has the blue screen is close to death.

Any help would be appreciated .

If it doesn't do it again, don't worry, if it does, you will want to run some tests because there is probably a problem there. That doesn't mean your computer is doomed, it could just mean that somehow your windows installation has a corrupted file that can be fixed, you have a driver problem, you have a virus, or any other minor problem that can easily be rectified

Hello Aastii thanks for the reply, do you think it would be possible that the task of making the movie could have damaged something or do you think it may have just corrupted something.

It won't have damaged anything, generally nothing that you do on your computer will damage your hardware, so you would be seeing much more major problems than just 1 blue screen.

I wouldn't worry about it and would just see it as a 1 off occurrence. Like I said if you see it again, update drivers and if that doesn't solve it run some tests.
