My Blur-ray burner won't burn any disc, BD-r or DVD-r. I've tried different programs and they all say burn engine failed, I've tried different PCs too. My theory is that it needs cleaning as it was working a few months ago and did update the firmware. It's an LG BE06 external drive, any help is welcome.

I think your blu-ray crapped itself, especially being LG....
Why did you do the firmware upgrade as this could have been the cause of failure.

I've only had it for 2 years. This happened before the firmware update.

DVD players/burners are known to fail around the 2 year mark or a lot earlier.....and some known to go for ever.
They are a cheap commodity these days.:P

Well ok, but why does it still read the discs and why did it just stop burning without any odd noises. The only thing that seems to make sense is that the lens needs cleaning. If it were dead I'd probably hear odd noises and it the disc would keep spinning. My DVD recorder died and it was LG, but it didn't just stop burning, it made odd noises for months and then it didn't burn or read. My BE06 can read and doesn't make odd noises.

If its reading i would think it was ok. Ive had problems burning in the past. Maybe its a separate laser. Can of air from a office store is what i used. Open the tray, do not shake the can or turn up side down. It has a oil base. Lightly blow it with tray open and across the laser head. thats about all you can do.

Well you know better; why ask us.
Clean your lens and start burning...its quite simple as you stated....

Tremmor if you have a can of compressed air for cleaning parts I doubt very much it would have oil at bottom of can as this would defeat the purpose.
