Bonjour

I have this apple program called Bonjour on my comp and I want it off, but it won't delete and it isn't in add/remove. How do I get rid of it? Google didn't help. Saying I had to do some thing in the run command and it didn't work.

You can kill the process, it is called mDNSresponder, I assume you have either ichat or iTunes installed on your PC?

Bomjour is a utility that scans local subnets for other devices it can link to, like just how WMP searches your network for all other WMP installs to share music from.

Annoying, yes, but there for the dumb user who doesn't know how to network their computers together.

Ok guys, I am not concerned about what this program is associated with (Quicktimes is where I got it) but it is causing issues and the fact apple installed this on my comp without my permission is very upsetting. All I am interested in is getting rid of it and apple refuses to help.

That is because it is bundled, just like every other media app. Go to the msconfig page and disable the mDNSresponder from running, which is the process for Bonjour.

mDNSresponder doesn't exist in my msconfig. Kill program doesn't stop the program. i dont' know how to get this virus off of my computer. I have officially deamed it that.

Bonjour is a part of itunes. Unfortunatly if you want to get rid of it...you have to uninstall itunes. On my computer I have to uninstall everything from Apple...not just a piece. I have tried several times already with no luck. I use itues as my media player since I need it for my ipod anyway. I have ituens, apple updater and Bonjour disabled during startup. If I need to use the Apple Software I just click on the icon and it opens without having any of that crap running at startup or in the back ground. I use CCleaner to controll my startup programs with no issues. Maybe this course of action will work for you also.

I don't have itunes. I don't know why I can't get rid of this program/virus.

Do you have a folder under "Program Files" called Bonjour, and if you type "services.msc" in the run box do you have a service mDNSResponder.exe running associated with Bonjour.
If so the service must be killed first to allow deletion.

For starters its not a virus...and it came with Quick Time when you installed it. Unless you have a really crap computer just leave it, its not going to make a difference running something like that in the background.

LOL

Bonjour is a networking component that scans local subnets for anything to connect to. Share music and pictures, IP printers, Network shared volumes, etc.

It is a service that is bundled with QT, IT, and many other Apple products. It allows QT and IT to basically scan your local subnets and connect to media to make media sharing easy. Windows does the same crap, but they call it something else. Like in Vista when you first join a network you can see everyone else's music.

I have always wondered what it actually did. I never tried to remove it but from reading this I see no need to.

It comes with BOTH iTunes and QuickTime even if you only have one of them installed. Also I think you should look up the definition of virus, because Bonjour is not a virus, so stop referring to it as one.

It doesnt have any effect on your computer so why are you so worried about it? Just uninstall QuickTime if your so desperate to get rid of it.
