Boost PC speed without changing Mobo?

I was wondering, as far as my Specs go, what could i do to boost my computers speed. I know i should get a whole new motherboard, but i really cant afford to get all new parts for a new mobo.

Is there anything i can do without having to change the mobo?

why are you only using 3 sticks of memory when the board can take 4? Add another stick of that same memory so you have 2 sets running in dual channel. Course upping the memory from 3gb to 4gb isnt going to make a huge difference and neither will upping to a 300 mhz faster processor, but both combined is probably the best your going to get out of that motherboard. You can try going for more then 4gb memory but for basic computer stuff 4gb is enough, besides ddr2 800 isnt too future proof. You really should be looking at a board that supports the quad cores so you can use either a high end dual core or quad core and faster memory.

Hmm.. well i plan to upgrade to Windows 7 64bit, so maybe i can have a better advantage with the 4gb of memory. What if i did change my motherboard and processor, is there any possible way i could keep everything else?

The 6000 is the fastest processor your board supports, dont really know how much performance gain you would get going from a 5200. The Windsor 5600 was a good overclocking chip but the 6000 was already pretty much at its limit. Save a few more bucks and get another board and go with a Phenom II X2 or a Athlon II X2.

That sounds like a good idea.

Do you know if i'd be able to keep my existing hardware if changed the Mobo and
CPU?

Oh, and which is the faster of the 2 cpu's you recommended ?

Phenom II X2 is the faster of the two. But you can get the Phenom II X3 710 for like 99 bucks. Yes you can use your other hardware as long as you get a AM2+ board. If you get a AM3 board you will need to change your memory to DDR3.

A majority of the components in a system can be switched from one computer to another with minor attention to compatibility. CPU, memory and motherboard are the 3 components that you need to pay the closest attention to in terms of their compatibility between themselves mainly. The motherboard will determine what cpu and memory you can run. Almost all motherboards now have PCI Express 2.0 x16 for video cards. Any relatively modern power supply can be used with any relatively modern motherboard as long as the power supply provides enough power. A hard drive and cd/dvd/blu-ray drive are extremely universal as long as there are open sata/IDE connections on the motherboard, but you will need to reinstall the operating system on the hard drive if you get a new motherboard.

Something like this.
One of these.

Or better, out of stock right now.

And a board, something like this one, plus with the 710 southbridge gives you the chance of unlocking the disabled cores.

You basically did my shopping for me, Although i might wait for the triple core thats out of stock. You were a big help :D

I did just notice though, that the CPU's you linked are both AM3, that doesnt mean i cant use the memory i have now right? i know you said if the mother is AM3 the memory i have now isnt compatible. Just asking to make sure.

It will work, the board in the link is a DDR2 board. The Phenom II AM3 has a DDR2/3 memory controller, they will work on both a AM2+ or AM3 boards.

You can get a new hard drive. 7200 rpm or higher I would recomend. If you have a 5400 that is... or splurge on a SSD =)
