Hi,
I have a Toshiba satellite e105. I bought it a month ago and then the hard drive failed on me. It still turns on but doesn't boot up. I got it from best buy so I dropped it off at Geek Squad and they wanted to charge me $150 to get my data. I back up my stuff weekly but I dont have all of my data and I would really like to get it all. They used their in house boot disk that boots before the opperating system, and showed me my data and I could put in a jump drive and take it off, so I know it is possible. It was some kind of utility's disk thing. I didnt wanna pay them, so after they dianoses it I took it back so I can get a CD like that and do it myself. I was hoping someone could tell me what CD I should look for. I was looking at Hiren's BootCD 9.9 That's what one of the geek squad guys told me to try, or some thing else, "Acronis" but i don't know.
I hope someone can help me. Thanks

Hello,

He may be talking about a bootable acronis cd, I use acornis trueimage, but thats backup software and the boot disk is so you can load the backups. The easiest thing you can is download live linux distrubition and once loaded, insert yor flash drive and drag and drop the files to it from the HD. Try Knoppix, its got alot to it.

It will load from the cd or usb drive and you can read the hardrive and move your files to usb.
