My old windows machine gives me this message after a power outage.

STOP: 0x0000007B (ox81A96B10, 0xC0000032,0x00000000,0x00000000)
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screens appears again, follow these steps:

The it tells me to run CHKDSK /F

All I need is someway to get to a command prompt so I can run CHKDSK /F.

I have tried booting in safe mode but it gets halfway thru (brings up the windows 2000 logo and then goes to the blue screen message above).

Should I get a boot disk? ( I am typing this on my Mac)

2000 has a recovery console very much the same as seen with XP. A good reference for repairing a corrupted mbr and what methods to use like a 98 startup floppy and 2000 installation cd are seen at http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/win2k_recoverycon.asp

The article there also explains how to install the recovery console as a boot option with a new entry in the boot.ini file. The same can be done with XP as well.
