I just wanted to know a fue things about win boot up.

In the BiOS you set your boot device.

Now when the BiOS goes to your boot device it looks for the first sector I get this. And this is were the MBR is and it gets loaded into memory.

The MBR then looks for the boot partition and then lopads NTL.DR

What is the Boot Partition?
I would thinkj they mean it is the Partition that has your Sysytem files on it. But what do they mean the MBR loads the boot partition into memory?

Yes, boot partition is a partition with system files on it.

MBR looks for boot partition and then loader (NTLDR) loads operating system to the memory. All programs that start with Windows are loaded to RAM memory. When you click alt+ctr+del you will see processes tab. Everything there is loaded to the memory. NTLDR is used in Windows XP and Vista, 7 have something called Bootmgr.

So the first Sector on Hard Disk has the MBR and this file when in memory will then locat the boot partition.

That Boot partition as you just told me is the partition you set up when installing win.

And this boot partition will have all the other system files to load win.

So if you have to partition and one has win xp and the other has win 98
Then at boot up when the first sector of the hard drive is read and it gets the MBR and puts it into memory.
The MBR looks for the boot partition but it will see two.

So is this when it will give you a massage of what OS do you want to load.

I get this.

But my thing is it is in the boot.ini file that tells were the OS is and how many OSD there are.

And if the boot.ini is on the boot partition then that means win xp partition and win 98 partition bot have boot.ini

So it must go to one boot partition first to get this info.

Or were am I off?
