Boot up Issues.

Hi, Forum

Today, an Issue arose for the first time on boot up. Upon pressing the power button, the initial usual whirring occurs and the bios checks the disk drives etc. However, it does not do the electronic check for the keyboard / mouse leaving them inactive. The screen also does not activate though powered on happily. To my mind I wonder whether it has finished BIOS or not... I have retried it several times using another monitor, other USB ports for mouse and Vista disk to no effect. As I say, this problem has not occured before and I am at a loss as what to do. Any help would be appreciated. My specs are below, though note I AM NO LONGER USEING THE GRAPHICS CARD STATED and am using onboard instead - the g. card hasn't been working recently and atm the onboard is covering most of my needs. Though that's a whole other issue, which I am no longer too concerned about.

So the system boots to your desktop or not? Do you see the post screen and then the screen just goes black and inactivates?
 
Reset the cmos by unplugging power supply, open the side of the case and remove the cmos battery, then press the power button on the front of the case a few times to discharge any remaining power. Then reinsert battery and plug power supply back in and try booting up.
 
Ah, ok problem (hopefully) solved - I replcaed the battery with a new one - clearly the old one was dead. Thanks for the help :)
 
Having a dead CMOS battery shouldn't have prevented the machine from POSTing. Hopefully the CMOS reset fixed it though.
 
Nothing happened on the reset, but then I did it again and put in a new battery and it then worked. Draw your own conclusions, I'm just happy it works now :)
