I have a laptop and it doesn't have a A drive. How do I boot up from a cd? Windows XP cd. I tried to run windows xp and I keep getting the message that NTLDR is missing. Any suggestions are appreciated.
quick note: if you don't know how to get into the bios, it's usually F2, F1, or Del key when you first turn on your computer, then once in, look for a boot sequence or boot priority and change it, then exit saving changes.

I changed the boot sequence to boot from the cdrom and had the windows XP cd in the drive and I am still getting the message "unable to locate NTDLR". Anyone have any idea what I can do? I am open to any suggestions.
My guess is if booting to the Windows cd gives you that message, the boot sector of your HD may be bad and unable to be written to by the cd.
Go to here and download dft. they have an iso image you can put on a cd. boot to it and and run an intensive scan of your hard drive (don't rush, it will take a while, be careful). if the results come up in RED you have a bad HD my friend, if Green 00x0 then you problem is elsewhere.
When I changed the bootup sequence to the cdrom it gave me the following message:
Boot CDROM Type: Non emulation booting
CDBOOT: Couldn't find NTDLR
Also, when I start the laptop, there is a blue screen that flashes for about half a second. It has some data on it, but it goes by so fast it's impossible to read it. The letters appear to be white and some in red I believe. Just more information for you. I will try your suggestion on that link you placed in your last reply.
I tried iso image you linked in your last post. I downloaded the file and burned it to a cd. I booted up the laptop with the cd and got the following message: unbootable cd. Did I miss something? I tried the xp cd again, It gave me the following message: "Boot CDROM Type: non emulation Booting, then CDBOOT: couldn't find NDLTR".
don't burn the iso to the cd. Your burning software should have an option you select to burn an "image". your sofware will then put the "image" (the iso file) on the cd correctly. You can't just put the iso on a cd like you would a file.
Maybe you should try the windows checkdisk instead, (that's easier than dft). In windows, start/run/type cmd, then type chkdsk /f, then it should ask you if you want to check you HD on next reboot, say yes and reboot.
