Bootable disc question.

I heard that if you had a program, such as a anti virus program that can boot from a cd. Which there are several out there, the problem is keeping them updated, I heard that you can update these programs when there on a CD-rw, can anybody confirm that this is true, I tried looking on Google but found nothing that would help me at all. If anybody knows please tell me!
Thanks,

The only thing you would generally see go onto a rewritable disk would be a special remover since just about any antivirus program needs to be installed on the hard drive to load up along with Windows. Separate removal tools can be copied onto a 3 1/2 boot floppy or added to a bootable cd to run from removable media there while actual programs require entries in the system registry itself along with seeing folders created on the drive containing the software files there.

Ok thanks but I have some programs that will boot but I heard you can update them using cd-rw because there re writeable so you can download program updates to them, is this true?

If you were able to get things to run off of any rewritable disk then the update option should see any updates go on simply from being a read/write not read only type media. For most however installing programs to the hard drive even a second partition/drive is the method for running just about any software(game or app).

Thanks for the answer and the only reason why, is that it would be alot easier just to boot up a disk to do virus scans and stuff because in my roc computer tech class thats what we mostly do with client computers. If you understand what I'm getting at here :D

i'm sure it's possible if you have a rewritable disc, as the rewrite would target only specific files and erases those already present on the disc. only way to know for sure is to try it out though.

it depends, if you are using an R then it will be impossible but if you use a RW then it may be possible... Basically, it depends...
