Booting issue

Well, I've had a little issue for quite a wile already. but by now I've tried everything I know, and nothing helped.

So.. my problem is that my pc doesnt want to get to/past the post screen when I try to fire it up (after it beeing off for some time) it has this small LCD screen to tell me what its doing during post tough, and that hangs on "Det DRAM" everytime. (note, the motherboard doesnt even beep once then)

Funny tough, when I remove 1 stick of RAM, it boots up the next go right away. (saying, overclock failed, press F1 to enter setup and F2 to load default values) when I load default values then, and put back the stick of RAM, it boots up fine. however, it doesnt seem to matter weither I have my pc overclocked or not for this to occur :|

any ideas for solutions?
 
now why didn't I think of that? =o I'll measure it tomorrow, see what its voltage is, and could ofc try a different battery just to be sure.
 
well, the battery was ok. I've been running my pc for the past 3 days with 1 stick ram removed tough (3gb total left) and I didnt have a problem at all so far :/
 
Some motherboards don't seem to work well with some RAM. That is what I have discovered in my experience. Perhaps that was the issue.
 
I think it has issues with detecting the proper voltages your memory needs to run at. Try removing any high speed RAM, or set the voltage in the BIOS to like 2.1 instead of 1.8 for higher speed RAM and see if that is the source of the issue.

If your BIOS got set to factory defaults, it could have cause the issue, which could be a bad battery, power outage, or just a bad shut down.
 
I had se the voltage to 1.9v all the time so far. so maybe that helps indeed. (thought 2.1v would be way too high) will give it a shot.
 
ok, tried it this morning. with all 4 sticks of ram inserted (booted with 3 first, to setup the bios) and it did boot up. I'll have to check this afternoon tough whn the pc has been off for a few hours, see if it still does tough.
 
like said, when I have only 3 sticks inserted in my pc, it booted just fine. (overclocked or not) and it didnt even matter wich stick was removed :x I do really think that the voltages dropping too low (more sticks is more load on the regulators supplying the ram with voltage, right?) with 4 sticks, but it jsut not dropping under a certain treshold with only 3 sticks. maybe the problem is solved, I dont know yet. I'll see when I get home again, if it boots up normally chanses are that that was the problem.
if it doesnt work I'll try 1 stick at a time then! :)
 
Well, everything I have read about that problem and Asus motherboards (I am assuming you have an Asus board, since google yields all hits with that error message to asus boards) was due to not enough voltage and high performance RAM. Since over clocked and high performance RAM does in fact require more power, so your assumption is a good one. Perhaps you need more voltage going to it.

If your BIOS settings got reset, then I could see the voltages being reset and that is why it previously worked. One stick at a time would tell you if it was an intermittent hardware failure, because a PC will not post with any bad RAM in it, even if there are 3 good sticks and 1 bad stick.
 
I think you got it right with the tip of increasing the voltage.. it booted up twice (with all the ram in it) without any problem at all! hope it stays that way of,.. but I gues only time will tell :) either way, thanks so far!
