my system is not booting up..the problem is that whenever i try switching it on,it does not even start up the initial booting screen.it seems that the cpu is not functioning properly..what do i need to do?how do i check what exactly is the problem?

If it doesn't even get to the boot screen, sounds like you could have a faulty PSU. Do any of the fans on the PC spin at all?

If it's not that, my next bet would be RAM. If you have more than one stick, take the others out and just boot with one. See what happens.

It could be the CPU, but unless it's been getting extremely toasty or wet, I think it's probably something else.

also sounds like it could be a faulty motherboard. but could be psu or ram. if all you fans are spining when you power it up I would check your ram next

What are you determining the CPU as? The CPU is a part inside the machine, the processor, that makes calculations etc. I think you are referring to the tower, meaning the case that has all of the parts in it. I don't think a faulty CPU could cause these kinds of problems - it would at least post.

If the machine wont post, I think there is either not enough or no power at all reaching the parts, or the motherboard is faulty. Hadn't thought of that one, thanks childsy.
