bootup help

I have win xp pro 32 Bit and 3. GB of DDR 2. RAM
And a Dual Core AMD Athlone 64 Bit CPU

Everuy now and then my pc boots up when I turn it on and goes through POST ok and stays on a Black screen and never Loads windows. It never even has the windows Loading screen come on.

So I used Ubuntu 10.9 to boot off the CD ROM drove so I could copy my stuff off the computer.

So I came back to it the next day and it started up just ok. Then it does the same thing if I try to restart it.

And if I try to boot from Ubuntu it hangs there and then says can't boot from CD restart.

And win xp CD never boots from I don't know why.

I just saw one thing thought if I un plug the pc for say 30 SEC then plug it back in it bootup just great. And when it happens again I unplug it for 30 SEC and plug it back and it boots up just great.

So what is going ojn???????????

Windows XP disc won't work because i believe ubuntu/linux in general uses a drive format that windows cannot recognise.

There are guides on the internet to dual booting windows and linux though.

If that's not what you want then download GParted Live and format the HDD (backup anything you need first) and install windows.

thanks but

No I ment I used Ubuntu to get into my Drive and save my Data.

But every now and then my pc wont boot to win xp. It wont even get to win logo screen.

But if I unplug pc for 30 sec and then plug back in it will boot great????????????????????????????

Does it just hang, in other words its not just shutting down/restarting. Kinda odd, have you ever replaced the motherboard battery. I have seen almost dead batteries do some strange things.

Whats that got to do with anything?

What I mean is this.

If I go to restart or even turn off and restart the pc 9. times out of 10. it will do this.

It will turn off and restart but it will go through POST and beep. Then the screen goes blck and never loads win xp or do anything.

But all lights go on and drives work and fans go.

Now if I hold the Power bottun till it runs off and turn it back on it does the same thing never loads win xp or gets to win logo.

But if I unplug it for 30 SEC and plug it back it boots great.????

And almost every now and then some of my Icons will have some of the words go Blank till I click on them???
