Windows 11 BOSD on windows 11

I keep getting a BOSD saying driver_irql_not_less_or_equal and specifically saying stornvme.sys has failed. I have tried to fix it in command prompt but that didn't work and so saved the few things I wanted on my pc and reset it. This didn't go to plan and crashed several more times. I am now on the start up menu for wimdows 11 choosing my pin and stuff like that. And every 20 seconds I get the same blue screen. Anyone ha e a solution? And does this mean it's a hardware problem and not a software. I've checked some of the parts like the RAM and my SSDs are new ( I had the problem before too) and I don't know what to try next.

Is this a custom built pc? stornvme.sys is the driver for nvme drive. What brand and model of nvme do you have? Also what brand and model of motherboard do you have? The recommendations here would be to
1. update motherboard bios
2. update nvme drive firmware
3. update chipset driver software for the motherboard

Once we get what nvme drives you have and what model of motherboard and what existing bios version is installed on it we can proceed with trying some fixes.

Was the pc working fine and then all of a sudden start bluescreening or has it done since you bought it?

It's a custom build. My windows is installed on a crucial P3 nvme but I do have a secondary one. Which I cannot remember the name of off the top of my head. My motherboard is a msi b450gaming plus. I tried to update my motherboard drivers a few months ago and that seemed to give a bit of problems but I also didn't know what I was really doing. I've never updated my nvme drive firmware. Can I update all this firmware in the bios or does do I have to be on the computer to do it? And I'll try and find out what bios version I'm on and post a reply. Honestly the problem has been reoccurring but hasn't happened in about a year. The current problem started earlier this week, I turned it on and then blue screen. No recent updates or anything just a random day.

It says my BIOS version is 5302 x64

The easiest way to see what bios revision is installed without actually going into the bios is to download and install Cpuz and then go to the mainboard tab and it will list what bios revision you currently have.

Get CPUZ here.

To update nvme firmware you'll need to download and install the crucial storage executive application and update it there.

Yeah I cannot actually access my computer so the only thing I can use is the bios menu. Is there a video you can recommend I watch to do this properly?

There is an updated bios for that board but it says it only updates the Agesa version for ram and cpu. Not sure this would relate to nvme or not.

To get the latest amd drivers, you would just want to go to AMD.com and select their auto detect and install option.

I went to the motherboard page and the latest driver for the chipset was in 2021 so that will be outdated.

Try booting to safe mode with networking and see if it will let you at least access windows. It may be as simple as updating the driver software. Have you tried doing a fresh install of windows?

I m currently updating motherboard. I tried going into safe mode yesterday but I kept crashing before it would even load.

I am currently updating motherboard to latest bios.

When updating the chipset it says to remove the old one. How do I do that if I cannot access the pc really?

Doesn't help that messaging over forums isn't the best.

You can't uninstall a driver without being inside windows. If the bios update doesn't work then your next step is probably a fresh install of windows. However, access advanced recovery and see if resetting pc(make sure you select the option to keep your data) will work for you. Sometimes there are things that just can't be easily fixed and a fresh install is the only course of action.

If the bios update doesn't work I'm out of luck I have attempted to fresh install windows several times over the last couple of says with non of them even being able to finish because it blue screens

Then it sounds like possibly a bad motherboard or nvme slot. Is your boot drive in the slot just below the cpu? Can you remove the second nvme in case that one may be causing the issue?

Yes my boot drive is in the slot under the cpu. I'll remove the second one when I get home in 20 mins. Could this be the issue as the second ssd has been in the pc for 6 months at least now.

Just wanted to give an update. I got the latest bios update and removed both 2nd nvme and hdd and now the computer has loaded. Do I add the secondary nvme back into the system to see if that causes a crash?

Sorry, i've been gone for the last 6 hours or so. Glad to hear that its starting up now. So maybe between the bios update and possibly one of the ssd's wasn't in the port all the way or correctly. Let us know if it acts up again.

I'm not sure I'm going to plug the hard drive back in and I did have one more crash but that was about 2 or 3 hours ago now and no problem since. I tried to look at what cause it in event viewer but that's a little over my head. But thanks for all the help.

If you want to post a screen shot of some of the event viewer errors we can look at that. So you have 2 nvme drives and then a regular HDD? If it was crashing on nvmestor then its related to the nvme ports not the sata port.
