Bought a HP DC5700 while drunk..

So, some people test their ex's while drunk. I seem to buy craptastic electronics, this time around a $31 ebay purchase of an HP dc5700.

Oh my, what a crappy purchase, BUT time for the fun challenge... can I put a more modern HP motherboard inside this case along with a better power supply and video card to play Skyrim at a low/medium setting, so it wont be a total waste of $31?! I kinda see this as more of a challenge than anything, I don't NEED to upgrade this piece of crap, BUT seeing that I make stupid purchases while drunk, I thought why not see if I can throw a more modern board inside this case. At least one that I can put a pci-e 16x video card into! I have a 750w ATX power supply laying around, so unless there is a odd difference in hookups all I will really need is another board and pci-e 16x video card.

I know that this board is a (small form factor) motherboard, what I don't know is what that exactly means, as differing makers tend to do their own thing in regards to their boards.

I see that they made a DC5750 that took an AM2 chip but it also has a pci-e x16 slot, anyone know if that is would mount into the 5700 case, and would an am2 chip be powerful enough to even play Skyrim at all?

THANKS EVERYONE FOR READING!

WHat brand is the psu? And the board doesn't need to be upgraded, open it up and see if it has a PCIe slot.

It has 2 pci slots and a pci-e 1x slot. PSU is a 300w. I wrongly thought the unit had a pci-e 16x.

I only care to play Skyrim at Low/Medium at a playable framerate.

It doesn't have PCI-E x16. Says so on the site.

You could get a FM2 ITX (if it fits) or mATX board and get a CPU/GPU combo chip.

Honestly you're just going to waste more money attempting this though. The amount of money you'd end up spending on this could just be tossed at a used 360 or PS3 on Craigslist to play Skyrim on.

Yeah, unless there was a new mobo.

Basically you're looking at getting a new motherboard, probably a new CPU, new RAM, and a new GPU. Not worth it at all if all you want to do is play Skyrim on low-med settings.

Oh, it does have a 16x slot.... For ADD2 support only!!!! I was flipping HAMMERED when I bought this gem! Anyhow I'm going to see if I can find another motherboard to put into this turd that supports ddr3 memory, a modern graphics card, and intel core I3/i5 chip. From looking at HP systems on ebay, the boards APPEAR similar in hookups. Considering I'm handy with electronics I will tinker with this so long as its cheap enough.

Keep it, its only 30 bucks sheesh hahah! Buy a monitor switch and use it as a secondary internet box.
