bought a new hard disk, did I do correctly?

yesterday I bought a new internal harddisk drive as second harddisk as a storage because my current hard drive is running out of space, I deadly
needed a new drive to archive my collection of videos.

But I am not very familar with hardware and computer stuff ,I have just finished my harddisk installation and partition /fomatting today, I would like to ask if I have done everything correctly ... because I "feel" it a bit strange.

My chip is Intel 945G , my new hard drive is 1000GB seagate 32MB cache which is SATA (or II, i don't know), i connect the spare power cable I found
to connect it to the new drive, then using a new SATA cable to connect it to my second SATA port on motherboard, then reboot the pc and go to BIOS, then set that SATA Auto "ON", and then I go back to windows and go to "Disk Management" to partition and format my harddisk into two approx. equal NTFS segment.

I would like to ask , did I have miss any step to do (in terms of both physical setup and software /drive setup)

By the way , does my Intel 945G support 1000Gb Harddisk well? Will it cause
my CPU or any other components on the motherboard fragile or anything bad in long run? Or I should ask in this way, does my board work very well compatible with my new hard drive? Because it is a large drive and I hope to use it for a very long time so I hope it perform the best .....so I want to know if my cpu or motherboard is good enough to "cooperate" with it, ...do I need to upgrade my cpu or motherboard?? My CPU is Pentium4 (R) 3.00GHz

summarize my questions - I hope to know if I did my installation and partition right, and if my motherboard / cpu stuff (which is quite old, about 3 years ago 's product) would work well with my new hard drive that is 1000GB

Thank you !!

How do you mean strange? Your computer shouldn't have any problems addressing a Terabyte hard disk.

it is quite slow when i copy and paste files from my original harddisk to the new harddisk.... it takes quite some minutes to move a mov file that is about 700-1000MB. By the way, working on windows seem get much slower... it seems always lag on everything... especially Internet Explorer, it has been very slow for long , i don't know if there is virus with it but I need IE because I have to access some webpage that is only viewable by IE. And always some lag with other program....like when i clicked the "X" to close a window or a tab in firefox it just don't close it until 2-3 sec later... sometimes even when i type words in forum, it also gives me quite a lag response (i don't mean the forum server) , for example when I type something like "Hello...", When I type the "H" it just don't appear immediately but after 1-2 seconds...

I am in Pentium 4 3.00GHz (as stated in system under control panel) , and i have quite lots of Ram 2.0G DDR2 ram.... but especially when I play movies located in my new harddisk while at the same time the new harddisk writing IN files , it will get quite slow and the playback of movie is very very not fluent.

i thnik my hardware is alright but I only don
't have a dual core, i don't know if it is importatn but i have 2gb ram
