Bought a X1600...

I just bought an ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512mb APG GPU. Now, I've researched it online since, and it doesn't seem too desirable. Should I return it? Should I keep it? I have a crappy GeForce FX5200 right now. Will it be a ton better than that? I'll be playing games like Doom 3, Far Cry, Halo, FEAR, and others. What quality will I be able to run my games with, on average? Thanks. Quick replies are appreciated, so I can return it or not soon.

lolz.... i was jus planning to read only but somehow it force me to reply!

i have talk about x1600 series oftenly and in almost every forum. x1600 series is not a great card for gaming!

ur old 5200 to ur new x1600pro "512mb" thats not really a great upgrade.... it is but not to0 much.

the x1600 series is jus for budget card but u can get x850xt like me for only 111.111 dollars! it is 10x 20x 30x faster in speed!

if u or anyone still likes x1600 series... i would suggest x1650xt over any x1600s with 512mb but for me... x1600s is out of my sight.

btw i rather get 7600gt than x1600pro 512ram if x850xt/pe is not avalible.

Honestly I would return it if you dont have to pay a restocking fee, and pick up an x800/x850 series.

Are they really that much better? I mean, I have it here, ready to install; is it worth the trouble? I'd have to ship an X800/850 in, whereas I bought this one from a store. Would I, as a casual/average gamer, notice a difference that would be worth shipping costs? Will I be able to run most newer games at high quality? Thanks. :)

I have a X800Xl, i can play far cry/fear on high settings for a 19" widescreen monitor :D

so i guess it's ok. its comparable to a 7600GS, little bit under 7600GT

Enjoy!

I've had an x1600PRO, x800GTO, and x850XT PE. Even the x800GTO is significantly better, with the x1600PRO I couldnt play games anywhere near the same settings as I could with my x800GTO.

You can also buy an x800GTO for around $75, vs the $125+ you paid for yours.

i personally think that card will be just fine for the games you mentioned...you can run fear on medium settings with no AA and no AF at 43 FPS so thats decent. Yea you overpaid for it a bit but its down to a money issue and its a hassle to have to send that back and order something then wait for it to come in.

But you can easily play FEAR on high settings with 2xaa and AF with 40+ fps if he has an x800/x850 series card.

wuts no AA no AF?
AA smoothes out jagged lines, and AF is a type of filtering method.

Even the x800's are better...my old x800xl outperforms a x1600 by alot and is easily(Emphasis on easily) comparable to a 7600GT in terms of power...they jus lack SM 3.0 which if you are hardcore into shading effects, then you might want the 7600GT..but if not...its a great card let alone if you can swipe an x850...oh boy would that be joyous.

I've got the X850 Pro and I can't fault it, I can play FEAR on high settings! I would recomend it... I'd send it back, If you can get a refund and then buy another card! I think you'd see a difference!

anti aliasing and anisotroptic filtering. just little helpers to make the game look alittle better. to be honest i think you should return it and get any of the cards listed. You could also wait a month and get a 8600ultra, which is a good upgrade from our current mid-level cards. but if your not into the waiting game then may i recommend a x1900pro, 7600gt, x850xt, x1800gto?

oops i shoulda payed more attention to the slot.. a x1900pro is a bit more expensive but itsa good card. :)
