Bought New Laptop, Have some Questions!

I recently purchased a Compaq Mobile AMD Turion 64 ML-30 1.6GHz Laptop (V2410CA) from futureshop(canada), it is running very hot after a couple of minutes..is this normal?

secondly, does this affect the laptop life/battery life??

I am considering exchanging it with something with a centrino. Does centrino based cpus run much cooler? longer lifespan??

if so which one do you guys recommand me?? i am looking at under 1100$ cdn..

I have a laptop with a Sempron and it gets rather warm after a few minutes. Software does have a lot to do with it. Of course if it's working on lots of programs, it's going to heat up.

I assume your fan's working properly?

Now, I use something called SpeedSwitchXP that lets me clock my Sempron to 800MHz which REALLY helps batterylife and heat. I don't know if it'll work on your system or not, but it might be worth checking out. You also don't even need ot leave it running in the background :)

So does running hot affects the laptop's lifespan??(i am afraid it is going to fry my laptop soon).

Does centrino based cpus run at much cooler temperatures?? if so, should i return this laptop, and get a centrino laptop??
 
Unfortunetly, running hot can shorten the life of any processor... My old machine is giving me all grades of heat issues now and I'm wondering if it's because it ran too hot for too long.

Anyway... Yes, Centrino, from what I can tell, runs much cooler. Though, something else to consider, some laptops just have better cooling methods. I spoke with one of my friends and his laptop processor ran as hot as my sempron, but the case didn't feel hot... Ah, and his processor was a Pentium M 1.73(Centrino...)
 
Every computer user and every computer housing can make one processor hotter than the other, even if its the same processor. One may float around the 40c and another can be floating around the 60c's- either way they're both in operational temps. Pentium M chips can withstand a great deal of heat. The max is 120c before fry-time, but if it ever gets that high, it usually cuts the power around 100c anyways. If you're floating in the 80c and higher, I'd be a little concerned. If you're not, I wouldn't worry about it.

As for battery life, I'd recommend the Centrino chipset over a Celeron M, with a little extra money you'll get much more power and longer battery life.
 
okay i ran speedfan and i only got 2 readings

one is hd0 which is at 34C(i just started the laptop)
and Temp1 is at 45C right now

is this normal??

also i am thinking of exchanging it for this one now..it is 99 bucks more expansive but is it worth it??(does it have longer life span/batter life than the current one?)
 
Yes, it's still normal. My Asus Z70VA starts up at 32-34c and normal temps are around 46-60c, and when gaming it can go up to 62-70c at times. All still in normal operating temps.
 
o okay..(after almost 1.5 hours...watching movies...it is cpu is about 57 sometimes drops to 50 when the fan started going..)

I am going to try doom 3 demo later to see if it goes up or not..
 
wow lagged horribly..i thought the ATI Expess 200M supose to be the best intergrated solution...(got 15fps under lowest res/lowest details).

but the temps were good, around 55-60
 
Hmm... Doom3 on any integrated graphics just wont work. At least, not as well. Also, if you're using anything with virtual RAM, try to make it at least in the ballpark of an X600 gpu. Even with that, you can only play it with medium settings.
