Boycott Dell

I just had a friend over at my place with a dell inspiron laptop and I had to reinstall xp media center the hard way... of course none of the drivers from the install cd work....

So I went to the dell website and downloaded all their drivers.... luckily the usb ports work, so I transferred them to the dell POS using an ipod. Then I installed them in the wrong order... instant BSOD.. so now I have to reinstall

it's just one of those things where everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong. the idiot deleted the factory disk partition, there's no system restore disk or backup available. At least the key code is on the bottom. I have my own copy of media center...
By the way it is NOT illegal to use someone else's OS disk to reinstall the exact same version of windows that was on your computer before as long as they are using their own key code. If you paid for it you have the right to use it

I can agree. When they're working, they're amazing machines but since we're ranting, I'll list my problems since I had mine:

1) Within the 1st month, I got a ati2dvag Display driver error and my computer screen would turn off with the computer still running forcing me to restart. This happened 3 times over 2 months.

2) For about 3 months the computer absolutely wouldn't shut down, it would just sit at the "Windows is shutting down..." screen and never turn off, so I would have to do it manually.

3) Dell MediaDirect is a joke, it works when it wants to otherwise, it boots up and instantly shuts back down.

4) Customer service... wait, what customer service?

Like I said, I've pretty much got all the bugs worked out with mine and am amazed by it, but should problems like that be happening on a system I spent $1300 for, when my friend with a $800 Sony has never had the first problem?

I am reformatting my Dell right now. It has had some problems today, not detecting the optics and I tried installing CCleaner and WinRAR, it wouldn't let me install ANYTHING. What a piece of Junk? I found an old PC component sales magazine for the same year I bought this thing, I looked up prices on the same stuff that I bought from Dell. I valued that PC for around $500 and I bought it from Dell for $900. If I had known half of what I know now.

While I am reformatting mine, Dell sent a restore disc with mine and I deleted all of the partitions. It is MY PC NOW, not Dell's flippin' POS.

Dell blows, for the past few months I have been working on getting my music to play from my hard drive WITHOUT skips, jumps, and every other noise. I have tried everything known to man including replacing hard drives, music files, Mobo, Psu, Sound Card and many, many other things and nothing works. I called up Dell and was told that since I have had to Pc for more than a year and do not have an extended warranty I would have to pay for the help, needless to say I pretty much told them to Kiss my butt. I then called back and talked to someone that had half a mind and got them to send me back up disks, but the dumbass STILL refused to help me with my issues

I HATE Dell

Getting disks from Dell was like pulling teeth, oh just so you know if you dont send them back, they WILL bill you. How do I know, because I have getting calls atleast once a week from Dell asking me to send them back. If you look at the invoice that was enclosed with the disks it will say something about returning them.

I have had this PC for 3yr's and no calls yet.

Yeah they came with it, sounds luckily enough. 19Gb of restore, that is ridiculous, when I build for ppl, I should do that to them.

"This computer is slow"<< "Ahh, but it's just like a Dell"

Dells are the most common pcs in at my work is there a reason they don't want to send it to dell?

As for me since day one i never like dell computer being is a desktop or a notebook, i dont feel secure on their products.

Too bad there aren't kits to build your own laptop.
The Dell POS is working again... almost. There are still no network drivers or sound and trying to get human being on the phone at Dell tech support is only slightly more difficult than teaching a rock how to swim.

if you do get a person they probably won't speak good english so you can't get any support

I've been on hold for almost two hours now. The last person I talked to spoke english.... barely. My last words to him were, "What part of 'there is no service tag' don't you understand?"
