Boycott Dell

Too bad there aren't kits to build your own laptop.
The Dell POS is working again... almost. There are still no network drivers or sound and trying to get human being on the phone at Dell tech support is only slightly more difficult than teaching a rock how to swim.

Well, sounds like me and you are in the same boat.

did he say he didn't understand anything?

The script went back and forth something like this...

"tech support" : May I have your service tag number?
A: I don't have one
"tech support" : It should be on the white bootup screen
A: You mean the one that is displayed for about a half a second before windows starts?
"tech support" : Yes that one
A: It's not there either
"tech support" : I need the service tag number
A: Can't I just give you the serial number or something?
"tech support" : It doesn't work that way, Unless you have a service tag I can't help you:
A: What part of "I don't have a service tag" don't you understand?
"tech support" : 'click'

Sound familiar to anyone?

Anybody want a (slightly) functional laptop??? :D

whats wrong with it besides that its a dell?

You guys got it good, my dell latitude's soft ware is fine, and I've killed my share of computers. The problem is that the battery hit 0% (I should watch it better) and then started to shock me and refused to hold a charge.
It was bought used for $500, with the "8ik,\" and a few other keys only working sometimes. They stopped working even sometimes but I had switched to external keyboards. There was no chane I could get Tech support even if they had it, that or replacement parts.
You guys talking about 'makeing it your own' and ditching the Dell disks... I bet that's easier than being afraid of your computer. (Hence I can't get myself to even take the HD out to get my files elsewhere)

The fact that it's a Dell is self explanatory.

It's a good machine when it works..... but it almost never works.

The only thing wrong with it now is the wireless drivers are missing and it no longer burns cd's or dvd's.... and it's a dell
