Brand new Custom computer Problem

Hello.

I have recently got a computer built for me via an online shop here in New Zealand. First of all ill list the system:

-Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (ST3500630AS) 500GB 7200RPM Serial ATA300Hard Disk Drive 16MB Cache

-LG GSA-H30N Dual Layer Dual Format (18x+/-R,8x+/-RDL,8x+RW,6x-RW,12X-RAM,48X-R,32X-RW) (Black) SATA DVD-Writer OEM

-AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+ (3GHz) 2x1MB Cache *Dual Core* 2000Mhz Socket AM2 CPU + Fan Retail Boxed

-Irock IR11A (Silver/Black) Mid-Tower Case with 12cm Front Fan 400W PSU

-Gigabyte GA-M52S-S3P Socket AM2 Motherboard

- 2 x Corsair XMS2 Dual Channel Kit 2x 1GB PC5400 DDR2 (667Mhz) Memory (TWIN2X2048-5400C4) CL4-4-4-12

-Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 64-bit OEM Operating System (DVD)
-XFX nVidia GeForce 8600GT PV-T84J-UDF3 256MB PCI-Express Video Card *2xDVI *Video-Out *HDTV

Now when I got this computer is was going sweet, but after about a week, it crashed with the blue screen of death, and here started my problem, when you rebooted the system about 8 out of 10 it wouldn see the HDD, the HDD would also make a clicking sound etc. Tried multiple things like full formatts etc. Eventually ran it through seatools and it crashed etc. So I sent the computer back and they guys their tested stuff, the HDD has passed Seatools on their system and they said it was most likely the SATA controller on the Motherboard. However the mother board was replaced and after 15 hours of testing the same problem appeared again. Me and the guy have almost run outta ideas, he swaped out my PSC for a 500w Raidman, and its been going for 16 hours now.

My question is, do anyone here have any ideas on what else could be causing the problem, hes tested every part and all have passed. Im hoping that the PSU will fix it, although Im still after any other ideas incase it doesn.

Sorry for the long post. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Mobo??? Oh motherboard lol right, well that was replaced as we thought that was the problem, but no.

Cant be driver problems, as it even happens when the hdd is formatted. Like you can have the hdd formatted in another computer, put it in and it will happen.

Yeah I dont think its the Hdd anyway, as it passes Seatools no problems when in another computer and even in my one when it actually runs mint. And apparently Seatools is specifically designed to see Hdd problems and that if it passes then its not the Hdd.

Lol Its a tricky problem, ive been working on computers for years and have never come across something this elusive, we were so sure it must be the SATA controller on the board, but no.

ITS THE HARD DRIVE!!!!! Trust me! I called Western Digital about mine clicking and they stated that it is defective. Mine is not dead YET, but it was to die soon. So, now i have to use a Amd Athlon XP +1800 for two weeks.... ;-(.. If you dont believe me, call seagate and ask.

I agree. Hard drive = Problem.
 
Im going to say its the drive, if he builds computers for a living, i can't believe he hasn't tried replacing it.

Also check the sata cables, to make sure one isn't faulty/shorting out

Did you have the same detection problems? Ill ask the dude if he tried my hdd in any other computers. This isnt a half problem, the computer wont even see the Hdd on most bios loads. And even if it does boot up with seeing the hdd it can have a moody half way into using it, like you can get through most steps to install windows, then when you get to the choose where to install, it will freeze and the hdd will disappear.

Ive got a funny feeling that the hdd works fine in other machines, as im sure my computer guy would of tried that, although I will ask just to be sure.

Yeah thats why I think it wont be the hdd, as im sure he would of tried that and he did say in one email. "The HDD was replaced also which usually would rule the HDD out anyway" so yeah. And yeah we've tried heaps of sata cables too. Like I said a tricky one lol.

p.s. just got an email back now, he hasnt tried my hdd in another computer, but he has tried a known working hdd in mine and still had the same problem (which is basically the doing the same thing lol). Also my computer has been doing stress testing for 25 hours now and hasnt died with the new PSU, so hopefully that is the problem, he's going to put my old PSU (lol thats brand new) back in tomorrow and see if she dies again lol.

The passing of hardware diagnostics does not rule out the fact that it is not errored. I say try another hard drive, then if that doesn't do it, try Memtest86.
 
Yeah he put another Hdd in and the same thing still happened. He should be testing it again with my old PSU back in now, after 43 hours of stress testing with a 500w raidmax PSU, So im hoping that my PSU fails lol and then we'll know.

Download and run Memtest86. If you come up with any errors... You solved your problem :)
 
The memory has already been extensively tested by my computer tech, for hours actually. So its not that, also the memory has been replaced and still bad.

But yeah more bad news. As of an hour ago my computer has been stress testing with the original PSU back in hoping for it to fail again (which means that the PSU is the problem) but its been going 5 hours now and doesnt look like the problem.

So it remains elusive, however it hasnt died in the last 48 hours so maybe we've done something lol. The tech says theres a very very small chance that PSU connections could have been connected in a way to cause problems, and that stranger things have happened in his experience.

So yeah any other Idea's?? So far all components (CPU, RAM, HDD, VIDEO, etc) have been swapped out, also motherboard has been replaced.

Im really baffled. lol
 
Yeah man, Im hoping that it would be all good now lol. Ive been waiting for this machine for ages lol. I just wish we could know for sure... stupid ass computers lololol. : )
