Brand new external hdd faulty?

I bought a Maxtor 1.5TB external hard drive and placed some files on it. Today I tried to transfer the files back to my desktop but I get error: cyclic redundancy check. To me, this is an error given when data transfered does not match the crc of the original data and occurs with faulty hard drives, cd/dvd media. But, the drive is brand new!

I have performed a chkdsk with no returned errors, tried a new lead and tried the lead in another computer/different USB port but still no luck. Is my drive realy faulty?

big storage HDD seem to be having multiple problems with reliability so it wouldn't surprise me

Its in warranty until 2013 so not a problem in returning. Just wanted to make sure its dead.

I have formatted it again and I will try and transfer some files onto it and back to my desktop just to make sure. Thank god I backed up.


UPDATE: even after formatting I get the same CRC error when transferring files back to the desktop.... time to send it back to Maxtor
