Brand new rig... PROBLEM

All of the parts finally came in for my new computer. I have a ATI 4890, OCZ 700w PSU, a AMD 550 Black Ed. and a Gigabite MA790X UD4P motherboard. When I hit the power button, the case lit up, but the GPU fan made a pulsing sound from losing power very briefly, and with every "pulse" the HDD LED flashed. Three of the four lights also flashed on the GPU. It is like these parts are being restarted every second or second and a half. What was odd though, was how the case fans and lights did not seem to lose power too.

We took the GPU out and the HDD light was still flashing at the same speed as before too, leading us to believe that the GPU had nothing to do with the problem. We were 100% sure that everything is wired correctly, does this only leave the Motherboard to blame?

Check all connections again, check your cpu 8pin power connector, atx 24pin connector, gpu power connectors. Try pulling one stick of ram out, see if it boots with one stick removed.

We checked it twice, and then rebuilt the whole thing and it was still the same problem. We checked different combos of RAM and changed the slots the RAM was in, none of wich helped the problem.

Have you tried booting with only one stick of RAM in the first slot?

Try each stick, one at a time, in the first slot.

Yes we tried all combinations of the sticks in many of the slots, we are fairly certain the RAM is not the problem, and could the RAM even cause the system to restart every 1.5 seconds? Should I just RMA the mobo and hope that fixes it?

Did you use the standoff's under the motherboard?
Check and make sure it's not shorting any where.

Is the motherboard screwed directly into the case or is it slightly elevated?
You would have to look under the board.
Make sure the board isn't touching any metal that could short it out.

It is set on gold "pillars", which are about 1/2 cm tall. Could shorting out cause the mobo to reset every 1.5 seconds, and then it is just trying to turn back on, causing the cycle to continue?

How can I do this? My friend installed the motherboard while I was unboxing everything else.
I would take the mobo out, and check the standoffs(the little brass "gold pillars") to see if your friend put one too many in, eg-one where there isnt a hole for one on the motherboard. Could be shorting traces on the motherboard as suggested earlier.

Unlikely, but both your RAM sticks could be dead. I had a similar problem like this and it turned out to be a dead RAM stick.

You wouldn't happen to have any laying around that you know work that you could try. And yes, it did cause my computer to restart very quickly. So quick that I couldn't even get a cd in the cd drive.

I took the entire thing apart again, and in the process bent two of my pins on the processor >.< Anyways, I added another standoff, and another screw, and added one part at a time until I had the main components in. It seems to be working fine now, but I'm to tired to get the disks installed tonight. Thanks for the help guys.
