Brightness Software.

my radeon 7500 had upgraded software that came with some monitor controls, and of course that Radeon isn't on that monitor, and one of my sons video games came with some monitor controls, and I wish I could remeber which one cause I have a Mag monitor that has been too dark the day I got it 3yrs ago, . I'm thinking MIB, or small soldiers or .....?

Sometimes you can adjust the settings in your video driver, but it tends to make the screen look really strange (try it and you'll see what I mean).

If you're willing to open up your monitor, there should be two screws located somewhere on it which control the focus and brightness. Tightening the brightness screw will usually fix this.

Keep in mind that opening your monitor is far more dangerous than opening your computer. If you're not experienced with this, I wouldn't try it. Parts in the monitor can store dangerously high voltages, even after leaving it unplugged for days. It's pretty difficult to seriously injure yourself when opening a computer, but pretty easy when opening a monitor!

I agree with ceew1... opening a moniotr case without a thorough understanding of electronics is just asking for trouble... a CRT can store a 35,000vdc charge for months while disconnected.

Adjusting the G2 pot would increase overall CRT brightness, however, adjusting it too high can cause physical damage to the CRT.

Anything you do from a software side will more than likely just whitebalance (or rather, unbalance) the image :)
