Hey guy's i have this external hdd

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/st...null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=392222&category_oid=

and i dropped the power supply by accident and as im in the uk it broke off one of the pins for the plug (as we have 3)

so its broken and cant be fixed.

i tried a similar power supply which is the same voltage etc but because of the actual size it doesnt fit, im in desperate need of a power supply for this hdd and i wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem and if so what did they do?

buy a generic one from ebay etc or buy one from seagate? (or who ever suplied the hdd)

i have a funny feeling that i will have to go though seagate but i would just pick up a genric supply as it will probs be cheaper :)

Thanks

James :D

Well, if you don't mind altering it, I'm sure you could hard-wire the power supply to the board and simply eliminate the plug, if that's all that's wrong. Besides that, just try ebay... I'm not sure what else would work. There's no real standard for external drives.

Can't you just change the plug then?
Unscrew it, take note of which wire goes where in case you forget. Get a new plug and screw the wires into that. Just make sure you remember where the earth goes if nothing else.:P
If you need any more help pm me.;)

thanks for the help guys and just to clarify its not a normal plug its a big bulky one :) its black as well.

i think i'll just have an ebay of it or i might just contact seagate and buy direct from them if possible :)

Thanks

James :)

Oh, sorry pal. :(

Is it just a standard 12V cable?

ACDC_Adapter_sml.gif

But with 3 pins, UK style.

If it is, then any 12V lead will do i think. I can use any in my external hard drive, so i can't see why you shouldn't be able too.;)
