Broken Screen!!!

My sister had her laptop on and accidentally fell asleep, which made her laptop fall off her bed. When she realised, we turned it back on and the laptop loads like normal, and gets to the log in screen, but only one small strip of the screen down the left side works, and the other part is white with some lines that look like cracks. The screen of the laptop is still in physically good nick tho, still smooth.

Are there any ways to restore the laptop, such as changing the screen, or re-using some of the parts? They might seem like silly questions but i don't really have a clue with this sort of thing lol

It sounds like the flex cable came undone or the inverter was damaged - both can usually be replaced (or fixed in the flex cable's regards). If you feel comfortable doing so, can you open up the laptop and screen and make sure the flat cable connecting the system board to the monitor is snug on both ends?

i don't think its anything to do with cables connecting the monitor to be honest. after re-reading my first post, i don't think i was being accurate. when you load the computer, one small part of the screen works but there are what looks like cracks on the other parts of the screen, but no cracks in the actual surface of the screen. however, when the laptop is turned off, you can still see the cracks in the screen that were present when the laptop was on

this preatty much happen to me to but mine was broken so i just used an external screen for my laptop and it just a slow desktop now lol

Do you have a warranty for it?

yes we have, but its a warranty for hardware failing etc, and doesn't cover dropping the laptop.

we went to a computer shop today, and the guy said the screen is the most expensive part of the laptop and would cost £150-£200 to replace, so we probably won't do it. we've had it for less than a year, so how much of the original price would we have to take off it we were going to sell it on ebay?
