Hello all,
Looking for a little help saving some files. I have a averatec that had stopped booting into windows. Ran chdsk and such but didn't help any. Later started getting bios screen saying the hdd is dieing...

about 4 gig separate partition on the hdd i installed another windows on, because i need files from the other drive from my documents. copy and paste onto my jump drive and it locks up. also tried moving one file at a time and it will not even let me browse folders for them.

I then found ultimatebootcd.com and tried using one of the file movers in that but i cannot seem to get it to work, probably my own stupidity.

now i installed ubuntu to move the files to my jump drive. it completely locks up ubuntu as well to where i cannot even force quit.

any other ideas on how to get those files?

thanks for the help if you can!

sounds like a pretty busted up hard drive.
you can try active undelete in the windows partition to recover the files.

thanks for the help again. used the program you showed me. didn't seem to work so i looked for a program similar and found "durable copy" and it worked wonders. was able to copy the files i wanted and it tried to fix them.

thanks for the help!
