Browser hijack, Help!

New Member
I have scanned in safe mode and deleted some HJT nasties, but when I click on a site thru google search, it end up sending me to some cut rate search site(always different). Here is my HJT log. Thanx.

dude am not gonna be much help here but wanted to know which browser? Firefox or IE or something different ... i once had my IE hijacked and it was the biggest pain in the neck .. my advise would be to switch to Firefox if ur IE has been hijacked.

It occurs 90% of the time in firefox and about 10% in IE.
 
I'd be interested in seeing which entries you've fixed in HijackThis. In the folder you're running HijackThis from, there should be a folder called backups. Can you please compress that folder (right click on it -> Send To -> Compressed Folder) and attach it to a reply post.

Your version of HijackThis is out of date. Please delete this version from your system and download the updated HijackThis installer from http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe.

Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Post a new HijackThis log with the new version and we'll take it from there.
 
This is what I deleted from the original HJT :O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.116.60 85.255.112.203 ( three times).
Nothing changed. After I posted last time I found and deleted this:O11 - Options group: [INTERNATIONAL] International*, which seems to have fixed the problem.
Nonetheless, thanx for the help. I took your advice and installed a new HJT. Here is the new file. If anyone sees something else, please let me know.

You were correct in identifying those O17s as bad, but unfortunately they're not the whole infection. The O11 is related to Internationalized Domain Name Support, and is legitimate. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...us/ietechcol/cols/dnexpie/ie7_idn_support.asp for further information.

We still need to remove the rest of the infection though. You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

Your logfile appears to be clean.

One thing I would recommend - You are using an older version of Adobe Reader, which contains some security flaws. You can download the latest version by going to http://www.adobe.com/ and clicking on Get Adobe Reader.
