SYMPTOMS
Windows NT computers, and those built on Windows NT technology, may stop responding (hang) with one or more of the following STOP error messages:
STOP: 0x0000000a
STOP: 0x0000001e
STOP: 0x00000050

CAUSE
These errors may be caused by one or more of the following:
• Hardware failure (memory, processor, or motherboard).
• Anti-virus software that is running on your computer.
• Drivers installed by third-party software.

RESOLUTION
To resolve these behaviors, perform one or more of the following:
• Replace the faulty hardware. You may be able to determine the faulty hardware by running diagnostics provided by the manufacturer. Please contact the hardware manufacturer for more information.
• Disable any anti-virus software that is running on your computer. If the STOP errors no longer occur, contact the anti-virus software manufacturer about a possible upgrade.
• Disable any third-party drivers that may be running. If the STOP errors no longer occur, contact the third-party manufacturer about a possible upgrade.

0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn’t catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).

thank you very much for your reply. just before i came to check who had replied i had another bsod. it was a

PAGE_INFAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

0x00000050 (0x83c22014, 0x00000000, 0x804F47A3, 0x00000000)

i also tried a few things to try and stop the bsod's. i ran memtest on each of the sticks using their slots (not the same slot for each stick). i also swapped the hdd and used that one as a slave.

going by what u told me:

iv been using the same drivers for a long time so they are ruled out. same goes for the antivirus software (norton antivirus 2008).iv ruled out the memory (havnt I?) and also the HDD (havnt I?) it could be the CPU or the motherboard

motherboard - MSI KT4 Ultra
cpu - AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 1.92GHz

i looked on msi site at diagnostics they said about beeps excet the computer doesnt beep when getting a bsod. only sometimes if i restart instead of turning off but that doesnt give anything away either. what do u mean by diagnostics? how would i test the motherboard and cpu?

thanx
