BSOD STOP: 0x0000008E

Does anyone know if a Power Supply that is not large enough can cause a BSOD STOP: 0x0000008E? I have installed a new GeForce 9400 1 GB to replace an ATI X1300 256MB PCIE. I also have a ATI TVT2 Wonder Elite. My PS is only 305W. The only time I get the BSOD is when I try to watch TV through Media Center.

Dell Diminsion E520 Duel Core 6300 @ 1.8GHz
305W Power Supply
EVGA Nividia 9400GT 1 GB PCIE 2.0 x 16
3GB RAM (2 x 500MB & 2 x 1 MB)
ATI TVT2 Wonder Elite

Well I know overload your PSU could lead to it frying all your parts...the card says minimum of 300w PSU with at least 18amp

One thing you could try is open your PC up and double check make sure its all plugged in....also have you tried playing a game yet?

It could be your system boarders on "just enough" till you try to do something that spikes the GPU power thus causing the BSOD.

If you can game using the card then I would suggest reinstall media center...it could be corrupted.

Also hook your old GPU back in and see if you get a BSOD with that.

Everything works until I .....

I have Played Far Cry 2 on High. Watched DVD's, Surfed the net and streamed Videos, Watched the radar in motion on the weather Channel. Everything works until I go to Media Center and click on Recorded or Live TV. I have uninstalled The New Card and reinstalled the old card, I can watch TV. Dell Tech support determined that the card was bad until they knoticed that my warranty expired on the computer last Friday, then it was not a bad card it was Norton 360. So I went to Norton and they uninstalled and reinstalled. This did not fix the problem, they then determined that I needed to wipe my hard drive clean and reinstall windows. I have 2 years of stuff on here that I would have to get on to CDR's. So I am trying to find anything else first. Thank you for the help.

Format isn't the issue...also if the card was bad you wouldn't be able to game.

Norton wouldn't cause the issue with only Nvidia it would have screwed the pooch on the ATI card too.

Have you tried using older drivers? Perhaps the new ones are screwing it up? There a new version of Media Center as well? Could try updating it.

Dell tech are useless.....like all tech lines...they always blame the same things.....and as you see once warranty is gone they blame other stuff to cover their tracks.
