bsod

ok so my friend jacked up his computer now when i turn it on it get the blue screen of death, im not really concerend about it i am just going to install a new os, but i dont know how to do it, i got linux ubunto on a disk i just burned it to a cd like i would any other cd by dragging and droping to the cd folder thing in my computer but i dont know how to get it to boot from this cd or if i even did it right to boot from a cd

Before you get going on that, you need to figure out why the pc is BSOD'ing. They don't just do that for no reason (usually). What is it saying?

You don't drag and drop a Linux ISO. You need to use a program like ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a disc. It will automatically be bootable.

ok so that program didnt work where do i go when i burn it, i just pressed write files to disk and it made the disk but it didnt boot up like it should did i do it right also heres the blue screen

Ok, that BSOD is usually a sign of a failing file system i.e. corrupted sectors, files missing or corrupted system files. So, you could either have an install of XP that exploded on you, OR you could have a failing HD.

Do you have the original XP disc?

no i dont, the system came from a offbrand site called everex and they dont make very good computers, i looked at ordering a disk but it cost 25 dollors for the reset disk and it did not come with one,

ok i got ubunto on this thing now just the screen resolution max is 600 by 800 its huge, i dont know how to fix it on windows i had 1074 by 800 or somthing like that

well what someone else told me is when i installed it i installed the wrong size monitor so it wouldnt let me go higher, so i went to reinstall it and it let me pick a differnt monitor now i have all the resolutions
