Bsod

I got a virus and it totally trashed my computer. I was able to save a good deal of my important files though. But it got to the point where my computer wouldn't even get into windows all the way. So I reformatted my HD and reinstalled windows. But now, every time I boot it up I get a BSOD. Sometimes it shows the windows icon and loading bar, but usually not. I put the HD into another computer and still got the BSOD. I but a HD from that computer into the one that had the virus and still got the BSOD also. I was able to boot it up in safe mode though, but my mouse and keyboard didn't work, so I couldnt get into an account.

I am really lost as to what I should do, and what is really wrong with my computer. I was thinking about buying a new HD and seeing if that works, and if not, stripping my comp to the bare essentials to see if that would work, but I don't want to waste time and money that I don't have.

If you guys can help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Remove one stick of RAM. If the problem persists, remove the other stick and replace the original stick you removed. In other words, try one stick at a time. Putting the HD into another computer will easily lead to a BSOD, especially if the mobo on that PC is a different chipset from the one tied to the HD.

Thanks, I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Its gonna suck though, cause my cpu fan covers the ram slots. Will I need to apply new thermal paste, or will it still be good?

If you remove the fan, you'll need to clean the old stuff with some Isopropyl alcohol and reapply the thermal paste.
