what error caused the BSOD here? and what do I need to do to fix it?

there is one reason I use this windows 7 partition, and that is gaming. I hardly think that one BSOD is worth killing that at all.
And for Linux, I have several Linux operating systems multibooted already. Mint 11, PClinuxOS2011, Fedora 14, and ubuntu 9.04 (would go 8.04.2 but its not supported now.)

as for that link. Driver is up to date (factory driver, hasnt been updated since released). But could it be another add on, like the Gt540m or the Speedstep on the processor causing the power state error?

Lets see if it produced a blue screen error. However, it seems it is driver related.

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

If it doesn't provide a log then just update your drivers and see what happens.

Sounds like a typical MS error in the kernal. Happens sometimes, if it contenues to happen, I reinstall Windows and probly setup your services an other core stuff properly.

Try updating all your drivers. Its not listing which driver that is causing the issue though.

acer doesn't have any updated drivers. They are the same ones that shipped with it. My video driver is one running from the nvidia website (275.33) and teh only other 2 that were needed was Ethernet and WLAN, both came from Broadcom and Atheros websites respectively.

Ok, try windows update to see if there are any driver updates listed there. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you to do. Does acer offer any bios updates?

they do. But i really dont want to try updating without a definitive cause to the BSOD. I kinda use this computer alot, and dont want to end up bricked in if the BIOS update fails.

Especially if this bios update kills booting from grub, which i've seen, since joining this forum. I still dont know what exactly caused it, but someone updated bios, and could no longer boot linux live cds/usb etc. Only solution was to roll back to the old one. So i wont be updating my bios anytime soon, even though it's a different MB. :p
