Bsod????

this one ranks the highest. People equate their PC running slow with it "wearing out " , they need a new one or if it is running slow, the operating system for some reason can not handle the load anymore of day to day chores. So they think OS Upgrade or updates. First I am not a big fan of OS upgrades. For a new OS I like to lay down a fresh copy of an OS onto a hard drive that has been wipped clean including the boot sector. So if the OS is infected and you do an upgrade or update usually you will get a significantly worse OS. Incase in the future you ever do get a BSOD you should:::
click start
click run
type sysdm.cpl
hit enter
click the advanced tab
then click settings under start up recovery
then uncheck automatic restart
If you leave that checked and you get a BSOD, the pc will reset b4 you can read the error,,, it will just keep resetting, booting. The only way out is to take the HD out, install into another pc, then with the other pc's os import the branck of the registry that has the start up recovery setting. Change the setting from one to zero, unload the registry branch and export back, remove the hd back to the other pc.

Like has been stated, drivers, bad sectors on the hard drive, bad ram, viruses.
... why does a car stop running ? ...lots of reasons,, right ? The better you take care of your car, the lesser of a chance it will break down. Never check your tires, change the oil, check the breaks, coolant, trans fluid, slam it into gear, spin the tires,, you are destined for a major break down.
Same with a pc. You go to porn sites, have p2p software like Kazza, don't clean the processor heat sink out when clogged with dust, bad working fans.
Install "FREE" programs from the internet that tout themselves as virus scanners / registry cleaners / browser helpers, not updating the OS. I worked on an infected pc last week that did not even have service pack 2. ...etc, no spyware or virus programs... the list goes on. Like I said I am not a fan of upgrades. Wipe the hard drive clean including the boot sector, then install your OS. No chance of getting viruses, trojans , spyware or flakey drivers.

you would have to see what the error was. In that scenario it more than would be a driver for some hardware. You have 2 choices for drivers on a windows box for a new install,

user side YOU have to provide whether from a cd or the internet
server side, built into vista
I installed Vista ultimate on a box I have , it works great except when it goes into hibernation... it will not come out, gets a BSOD. Vista has a driver troubleshooter that I found out it was the video card drivers. I downloaded the latest ones from the manufacturers web site that was supposed to be for Vista, still does the same. So I guess no hibernation. So it would be something like that.
That is Microsofts big claim. People say that their OS is flakey. Actually it is badly written drivers mucking about in kernl mode. So in xp you notice that when you install a driver NOT approved by Microsoft you get a pop up saying
"this driver is unsigned by MS, do you still want to install" so Microsoft is saying, if you install an unsigned driver hey don't come crying to us if your system becomes unstable. Actually there is very little to worry about with xp, although Vista seems to work the same underneath as xp, i think there is more to xp in overhead that will not tollerate bad drivers that xp could run with. Most xp drivers are windows 2000. So I think you will start to see drivers for widows 2000/ xp and drivers for Vista. So you have to be a detective and read to BSOD error, google it, what ever. I can tell you this, when xp came out in 2001 I did not like it much, usb support was really flakey, till they came out with service pack 2. A year , 2 years from now you will not know how you ever lived with out Vista.
