Hey, any of you guys in the UK on the BT Yahoo 8Mb Broadband Package, I am, have been for a while, but recently my god is it screwing around.... Dropouts every 30mins, speed plummeting to 512K levels, no connection at all for say 2 hours continuous of every day.

Anyone else having any probs, cos im about to blow a fuse at some unlucky service rep if it doesnt bloody well stop it.

And yes, before you say it, its not my wireless connection, its confirmed on ym wired connection aswell, and ive taken off all security and encryption, running it on upgraded router firmware... everything i can do ive done

Just ondering if anyone else is ahving any problems with BT YAhoo in the UK..??

I would not do this...lol!

These people are over worked and under paid...you ever here the saying you will catch more flies with honey than vinegar?

I learned that if you talk real nice to people more than half of them will tear down concrete walls to help you out...lol!

I would have to say it is a problem on their end best you can do is call them and explain the problem...but remember BE NICE it will get you alot farther. :D

I would do in between what Cell said and what you said, deinfatly not just go blow a fuse. Explain the problem, if they tell you to do something stupid, be just say you already tried it, if its something stupid like restart your comptuer or make sure the modem is plugged in or anything, dont say it wont matter, jsut say you JUST tried it. If they re to unknowlegable, ask for a supervisor or manger, there is no reason not to be quick about it, but be nice about it.

One rule of thumb, if they dont tell you the name, ask the guys name at the beggining. Log the time you called. I have called some people where total asshats and well guess what, within a couple weeks they were looking for a new job.

Don't be mean but you also don't have to deal with there crap, just also remember, the guy on the line in not responable for your internet. if you get a manager or supervisor demand a free month of service, if its anything like cox, you will get it.

As you could proabally tell since I went on about that, I recoomend you call them, a lot of times they can jsut reset the connection to your house straight from there and all will be well.

I kinda forgot about this thread, sorry, anyway , a little update for you.... yesterday my connection speed increased a bit, it was noticeable, so i went and did some speed tests, not im on a 3.5Mb line.... not quite the 8Mb im signed up for, but its better than 512k i suppose...

I havent rung up or anything, i was gonna do ti yesterday when the connection got fast again... ah wel

are you on a confirmed 8meg or just an up to 8meg line. Speeds are going to change depending on how far from the exchange you are and so forth.

Im on 8 meg max with eclipse internet but my maximum is currently 4.5meg due to my location....only 1 mile from the exchange but hey ho.

I know there were a lot of problems in the last few months, believe that BT updated hunderds of exchanges in March and they are still having teething problems

i am on an 8 meg bt line and of course it is not working at full speed, due to distance from exchange and other factors. also they alwys advertise as 'up to' 8mb.

if ur living in an urban area i suggest you put back the wep/wpa encryption to prevent other people from using your line.

Is 8Mbbps what you have? Or 8mbps max?

I checked out the details and its 8Mb max, so yeh, its variable, our closest exchange is literally down the road, i could through my keyboard at it. All the time ive had this line ive been getting 6.5Mb - 7.5Mb, i can understand that, its still good, but 512k is not acceptable. as i said im now getting 3.5Mb which is still a lot lower than i expect.

@dave597 - yeh, i put everythign back, actually i upgraded a little, went from WEP 128-bit up to WPA with a key thats 37 characters long. Like to see someone hack that one... lol

Well if you signed for just 9mbps max and no minimun then i have to say thats your [familys] fault. I have 5mbs max 4mbps min, and i have been getting around 5.5.
