My laptop messed up so I am getting a desktop instead. Is this a good buy?

Budget: Around $400.

I saw this and it's only $415 with tax. My dad used to have a compaq and it lasted 10 years, with high usage.

Is it your absolute budget?
I would recommend you get athlon IIx2 instead. Single core CPU is a little slow...

Well I already have an Acer Inspire Netbook, so I got to thinking instead of buying another laptop why not a desktop?

My budget is pretty fixed really. I basically just want something I can edit my website, surf the web and store data. The screen on my netbook is way too small and it loads kind of slow.

Yeah, that one you suggested does seem faster, comes to about $450 vs. $415 with tax.

EDIT: I think I am going to get that one you said, it comes with a 500 GB hard drive and dual core.

Only thing that sucks is they have it in stock like an hour from me, but it's a nice day to drive lol.
