I have around a $1200 canadian max (b4 tax) which is around $1000 american, maybe a little less.

Anyways, here is what I've put together right now...still under budge from a local store...note I'm not looking for a monitor:

Motherboard: MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum
CPU: AMD Athlon 64-3000 socket 939
Memory: 1Gig DDR 400 PC3200
Video Card: MSI NX6600GT-TD128E
Sound Card: SB Live Audigy 2 value
Speakers: Creative Inspire P5800 5.1
Hard Drive: 7200rpm 160G
DVD/CD-RW: LG
Keyboard/Mouse: Microsoft wireless

Any suggestions? My challenge has been keeping under budget while also having a comp i can upgrade over the next couple of years....

seems pretty pricey for $1000. My system below plays all the newest games on high settings. Where are you buying it from? The specs look good though.

- MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum [$165CAD]
- Sapphire X800Pro [$245CAD]
- AMD Athlon64 3200 Venice [ADA3200DAA4BP, $240CAD] -- you can read the code on the chip -- so make sure its the code i just gave you
- Maxtor DiamondMax10 250GB [16MB, $135CAD]
- NEC 3540 [$60CAD]
- KingMax 2x512 PC3200 [$130CAD]
- Enermax EG-495P-VE SFMA [12V@36A, $90CAD]
- Logitech Office Pro Keyboard [$15CAD]
- Logitech MX1000 [$75CAD]
- Canada Computers Duke Case [$40CAD] -- make sure you get them to remove the PSU (its $10 off)
Subtotal = $1195CAD
