budget gpu upgrade

I say go for the 9600.

My friend has the Nvidia 6200 and my graphics look better than his playing the same game on high settings.

Even though i think the 6200 is a little newer.

I have a Club Radeon 9600 Pro

the last 3 digits are really what tell you how good a card is so if you go from a 200 to a 200 it wont be much better. so definitely get the 9600 out of those.

No, not always

If you compare 7900GT to FX5900, or 6200 to FX5200 then difference is huge

The 9200SE is a horrible card, it is worser than plain 9200. My friend have 9200SE and it doesn't perform as good as my old fx5200

So, the difference between 6200 and 9200SE should be huge

are you on crack? a 9600 will out perform the 6200, it has higher core clock and 128 bit instead of 64.

My friend I said 9600 is better but not by a lot.

Also don't forget that 6200 has 3 vertex shader, 9600 has 2

Edit: http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/10/04/vga_charts_iv/page9.html (9600pro Benchmarks)
http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/12/22/vga_charts_v/page7.html (6200 benchmarks)

Compare these two benchmarks and you will see that 6200 was better in majority of the games that were tested.
The 6200 that was tested was 128 bit, not 64-bit and has clock speed of 300Mhz

So, the the 9600pro should be a little better than the 64bit version of 6200

That is sometimes true, but its best not to make that generalization. I can think of at least 10 examples where that isn't true. Then with an nVidia -> ATI comparison, its even less true.
